Submitting image material


 

General

Question: Do I need to register?
Answer: It is generally not required to register. However, if you upload image material it is useful for the admins to have an option to contact you in case questions about the images arise. Also, registered users can have a personal gallery which they are in control of.
 
 
Question: How do I register?
Answer: Go to "Register" and fill in the required fields (and the optional ones if you want to).
After submitting your information you should recieve an email message at the address that you have submitted while registering, giving you instructions on how to activate your membership. Your membership must be activated in order for you to login.
 
 
Question: What if I forgot my password?
Answer: Click the link "Forgot password" on the login page.
 
 
Question: What if I changed my email address?
Answer: Just simply login and change your email address through "Profile".
 
 
Question: What's "My Favourites"?
Answer: This feature will let a user store a favourite file in the cookie that was sent to your computer.
 
 
Question: How do I save a picture to "My Favourites"?
Answer: Click on a picture and click on the "picture info" link (Picture information); scroll down to the picture information set and click "Add to fav".
IMPORTANT:Cookies must be enabled and the cookie from this site must not be deleted.
 
 
Question: What are cookies?
Answer: Cookies are a plain text piece of data that is sent from a website and is put onto your computer.
Cookies usually allow a user to leave and return to the site without having to login again and other various chores.
 
 
Question: Where can I get this programme for my site?
Answer: Coppermine is a free Multimedia Gallery, released under GNU GPL. It is full of features and has been ported to various platforms. Visit the Coppermine Home Page to find out more or download it.
 
 
Question: How can I download images?
Answer: Open the detailed view of an image, click on the image itself and it will open full-size in a new window. There you can download it in the way that is usual for your operating system.
 
 
Question: How may I use the image material?
Answer: All images on Pirate Images are licensed under CC-By-Sa. This means they are Creative Commons and can be used freely as long as the author's name (see file information) is mentioned. We also ask you to mention Pirate Images additionally. Any alterations of the image material must be passed on under a similar license.
It is your responsibility not to infringe on the rights of others by publishing the material. Images with recognizable people must only be used for press and documentary purposes and never in any way that is libellous, defamatory or that violates their privacy. Furthermore, images of discernible logos, protected signs/designs and attributable property are also restricted to press and documentary purposes only. The administrators of Pirate Images do their best to mark these images as "press/docu only".
 
 
Question: How can I remove an image from the database?
Answer: If one of the images violates your rights and you do not agree to it being published in any way, then contact us by e-mail under "info [at] pirate-images.de" and we will remove it as soon as possible.
 
 
Question: How can I contact "Pirate Images"?
Answer: The best way is to write an e-mail in English or German to "info [at] pirate-images.de".
 
 

Submitting image material

Question: How do I upload a file?
Answer: Go to "Upload file" and select the album that you want to upload to. If you are unsure, where your file belongs or there is not yet an appropriate folder, select "Unsorted/Other". Click "Browse", find the file to upload, and click "open". For documentary / press photos please always add a description of the situation, a date and place in the description. Titles and keywords are useful but will also be filled in by an admin. To finish, click "Submit".
 
 
Question: Where do the images I uploaded end up?
Answer: They are publicly available for free under a CC-By-Sa license. Users can download the images and use them as long as they do not violate your or other people's rights. However, before your uploads are activated they are checked by the admins according to legal and technical criteria.
 
 
Question: What type and size of a file can I upload?
Answer: We accept any image and video formats but recommend JPG for photos (quality setting 9-12), PNG/GIF for graphics or SVG for vectorised images. The maximum size for uploads is 11 mb per file. For larger file sizes (auch as videos) you can contact Pirate Images under "info [at] pirate-images.de" to ask for FTP access.
